Tampa Theatre Scores (Nearly) Exclusive National Engagements of NORTH BY NORTHWEST, GONE WITH THE WIND and THE WIZARD OF OZ!
Tampa Theatre is one of only a few theaters in America chosen by Warner Bros. for 35mm anniversary screenings of three beloved classics – NORTH BY NORTHWEST (50th), GONE WITH THE WIND (70th) and THE WIZARD OF OZ (70th). These titles were taken out of theatrical release in anticipation of Warner Home Video’s DVD and Blu-ray Hi-Def anniversary releases later this year.
Alfred Hitchcock's NORTH BY NORTHWEST-Sunday, August 9 at 3pm
Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason, Leo G. Carroll
This strong candidate for the most sheerly entertaining and enjoyable movie ever made by a Hollywood studio showcases Alfred Hitchcock at his most effervescent in a romantic comedy-thriller that also features one of the definitive Cary Grant performances. Gripping, suspenseful, and visually iconic, this classic laid the groundwork for countless action thrillers to follow. Madison Avenue advertising executive Roger O. Thornhill is mistaken for a government agent by a gang of spies. He gets involved in a series of misadventures and is pursued across the States by both the spies and the government whilst being helped by a mysterious, beautiful blonde. Watch out for crop dusters and the escape across the faces of Mount Rushmore. Not Rated/1959/2:11
GONE WITH THE WIND - TWO SHOWS!
Saturday, August 15 at 3pm and Sunday, August 16 at 3pm
Vivien Leigh, Clark Gable, Leslie Howard, Olivia de Havilland, Hattie McDaniel
The epic tale of the indomitable Katie Scarlett O’Hara and her passionate life and many loves during the tumultuous Civil War and Reconstruction Eras in the American South. From her young, innocent days on a feudalistic plantation to the war-torn streets of Atlanta; from her first love whom she has always desired to three husbands; from the utmost luxury to absolute starvation and poverty; Scarlett survives it all to see ‘anutha day’. This much-beloved classic and winner of 8 Oscars is a masterpiece of meticulous backdrops, glorious sunsets, numerous silhouettes, and ultrasaturated Technicolor which creates a hyperreal vision. The romantic score is every bit as lush and dramatic as the photography, borrowing folk melodies from the Old South to make the tragic war concrete. Heavy nostalgic tones pervade the often witty dialogue and larger-than-life charms and faults of the leads. Gone With The Wind stands among the greatest epic dramas ever filmed. Not Rated/1939/3:58
